Maples Communications and strategic partner Citizen7 Studios have been selected by the Irvine Chamber of Commerce to develop the “Digital Irvine” program which will be designed to attract digital media businesses, build upon Irvine’s reputation as a top destination for the digital media industry, and inform people about the size and vitality of the digital media sector in Irvine.

This is an opportunity to leverage an integrated social media and public relations campaign designed to build awareness and brand identity. Social media is a perfect tool for awareness and brand building because it allows organizations to both reach a wide audience and at the same time target specific stakeholders. By incorporating social media with traditional media methods the Digital Irvine program will maximize its effectiveness.

With an existing cluster of digital media companies such as Blizzard Entertainment, Javaground, and Papaya Studio already doing business in Irvine, along with over one-third of Fortune 100 companies having a presence in the city, the chamber believes Irvine is an enticing destination for any company in the digital media industry. A city with a favorable business environment, Irvine was named one of the “20 Cities Best Suited to Withstand a Recession” by BusinessWeek magazine last year.

“Irvine has a thriving digital media cluster,” said Chris Lynch, vice president of Economic Business Development at the Irvine Chamber. “The Digital Irvine program will create awareness leading to critical mass which will result in attracting additional digital media companies and make Irvine a hub for the digital media industry.”

“We plan on leveraging social media to communicate to a targeted audience about the significant potential for digital media companies to grow in the city of Irvine.” said Bob Maples, President of Maples Communications. “Social media allows organizations such as the chamber to become their own publisher of relevant information and level the playing field when it comes to getting their message out.”

The Digital Irvine program will educate companies on the benefits of doing business in Irvine, such as the large employee talent pool, the proximity to the entertainment industry, the convenient location near John Wayne Airport and major freeways, the existing anchor companies already in place, and the nearby University of California at Irvine.

The digital media market is an extremely broad space that ranges from digital video game developers to digital signage and can include a variety of custom hardware and software elements.
